Bone Densitometry is a type of scan used to measure bone mass in order to detect low bone density and to predict the risk of rheumatic disease, especially osteoporosis. The best bone density test is called dual energy x-ray absorptionmetry (DEXA). This test involves lying on a table for 10 - 20 minutes while a small detector scans the spine, hips or forearm.
